June 2027: the solstice starts the week
Report from the bright end of the year. June 2027 opens on Tuesday 1 June and closes on Wednesday 30 June. Both Tuesdays and Wednesdays turn up five times. The centrepiece is a Monday, though, because the solstice lands on Monday 21 June. It is the longest day north of the equator, and it begins a working week. Light lingers past nine in the evening. Our correspondent reports the garden still bright at the end of the news. There are 22 business days here, and none of them runs short of daylight.
Tuesday to Wednesday, five of each
The Tuesdays arrive on 1 June, then weekly on 8, 15, 22 and 29 June. Wednesdays pair with them on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 June. The count runs to 22 business days plus 8 weekend days, spanning ISO weeks 22 to 26. Four Saturdays and four Sundays split the weekend evenly.
Week 22 opens the month with days inherited from May, and week 26 ends with days owed to July. Between those borrowings sit 30 days that belong to June alone. It is a tidy arrangement, for a month with so much going on.
One weekend, three crowns
Saturday 5 June carried the Champions League final at Madrid's Metropolitano. Sunday 6 June then held the Monaco Grand Prix and the closing Sunday of the French Open at Roland-Garros. Madrid kept the football, Monaco the cars and Paris the tennis, all inside one weekend. Two days, three titles, and a certain amount of time-zone arithmetic.
The new week settles. How to Train Your Dragon 2 reaches cinemas on Friday 11 June, the month's first family night out. The Portuguese Grand Prix weekend follows from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 June, round nine of the season.
The longest Monday, then Rio
The full moon fills on Saturday 19 June, the old strawberry moon, two days before the solstice. Last quarter follows on Sunday 27 June. New moon and first quarter both fall on Fridays this month, on 4 and 11 June.
The Women's World Cup kicks off on Thursday 24 June at the Maracana in Rio. Rio stages the first edition ever held in South America, and it runs to 25 July. Shrek 5 arrives on Wednesday 30 June, a midweek launch aimed squarely at July. The month ends that same night, quietly for once.
The longest day starts the week, and the World Cup starts the following one. June 2027 arranges its light and its football with equal care.
