Dispatch, December 2026: the year ends with a 31-day month that opens on a Tuesday and refuses to hurry, running through weeks 49 to 53. Two of the decade's biggest films hold the same Friday: Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday both open on December 18, a head-to-head neither studio blinked on. The solstice lands on Monday, December 21. Five Tuesdays, five Wednesdays and five Thursdays stretch the midweek across the whole month.
The shape of the month
This is one of the rare years with a 53rd week. The calendar runs a full week longer than usual. Business days total 23, weekend days eight.

The finish line
Formula 1's 24-race season ends with round 24 in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, December 6. The Game Awards stream from Los Angeles on Thursday evening, December 10, at 16:30 Pacific. That makes it a late night for Europe.
The NBA Cup final follows on Friday, December 11 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. It closes a tournament that began October 30. Liverpool host Sunderland at Anfield on Wednesday, December 2. Champions League Matchday 6 then runs Tuesday, December 8 and Wednesday, December 9.
The solstice, the shortest day, arrives on Monday, December 21. The Fiesta Bowl quarterfinal closes the big dates on Wednesday, December 30. Between the fixtures, the month stays a working one.
