April 2027: Five Thursdays, Five Fridays, One Green Sunday
Dispatch, April 2027: the 13th behaves this quarter. April 13 is a Tuesday. May 13 is a Thursday and June 13 a Sunday. The year's one unlucky Friday holds off until August. The month runs 30 days, Thursday to Friday, stacking five Thursday-Friday pairs from its first square to its last. Our correspondent marked April 11 twice, because the Masters ends that Sunday and so does the NBA regular season.
The shape of it
April 2027 opens Thursday, April 1 and closes Friday, April 30, spanning weeks 13 to 17. Thursdays fall on April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; Fridays on April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. That gives 22 business days and 8 weekend days. Five full Thursday-Friday pairs mean five chances to finish the work week early.
The moon runs new on Tuesday, April 6, first quarter on Tuesday, April 13, full on Tuesday, April 20 and last quarter on Wednesday, April 28, within a day either way. The full moon sits midweek between the NBA play-in and Wembley's semi-final weekend.
Narnia: The Magician's Nephew reaches Netflix on Friday, April 2 after its 45-day theatrical run, and the FA Cup quarter-finals play Saturday, April 3. The month starts well fed.
A Sunday with two endings
Masters Week fills Monday, April 5 to Sunday, April 11 at Augusta National, with tournament rounds Thursday, April 8 through Sunday, April 11. The final round shares its Sunday with the last day of the NBA's 82-game regular season. On Saturday, April 10, the NHL closes its first 84-game season since 1993-94 with all 32 teams on the ice.
The NBA play-in follows, Tuesday, April 13 to Friday, April 16. The US federal tax deadline lands Thursday, April 15 inside that window, so one week holds two kinds of brackets. Panic Carefully, with Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen, opens Friday, April 9.
The back half hands off
The 131st Boston Marathon runs Monday, April 19, the traditional third Monday, from Hopkinton to Boylston Street. Spaceballs: The New One opens Friday, April 23, forty years after the original. Wembley stages the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25.
April 30 closes the relay: the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs and the Miami Grand Prix weekend both open that Friday, with the race on Sunday, May 2. May answers with the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 1. The month ends reaching for the weekend, which is where it began.
Mark April 8 to 11 and April 19 now. Both dates fill fast, and April does not slow down for anyone.
