April 2027: five Thursdays, five Fridays
Filed from a Thursday that keeps its promises. April 2027 opens on Thursday 1 April and closes on Friday 30 April. In between it deals five Thursdays and five Fridays, and no fewer of either. Five separate weeks start with the same two-day run-up. It is a good month for habits that need a running start. Our correspondent finds the repetition restful, like a schedule at peace with itself. Business days number 22, weekend days 8, and one Masters to book around.
Five Thursdays, five Fridays
The Thursdays land on 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 April. The Fridays sit on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 April. Every week of the month opens with that same pairing. Eight weekend days sit against 22 business days.
ISO week numbers run 13 to 17. Week 13 opens the month inside March's ledger, and week 17 closes it with days that spill into May. April borrows at both ends and keeps 30 days in the middle. The moon favours Tuesdays here, with new on 6 April, first quarter on 13 April and full on 20 April.
Augusta, then the run-in
The Masters plays its rounds from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 April at Augusta National. Masters Week fills the town from Monday 5 April, and the hotels priced that in months ago. The NBA's regular season ends on the same Sunday, 11 April.
All 32 NHL teams play their finale on Saturday 10 April. It closes the league's first 84-game season since the early 1990s. The NBA play-in tournament then runs Tuesday 13 to Friday 16 April, with first-round playoffs behind it. The full moon fills on Tuesday 20 April, midweek between the play-in and Wembley weekend.
Wembley, Boston and the Fridays
The FA Cup quarter-finals played on Saturday 3 April. The semi-finals follow at Wembley on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April. The Boston Marathon closes Boylston Street on Monday 19 April, in its traditional third-Monday slot. Last quarter falls on Wednesday 28 April, tidily late.
The Fridays carry the cinema this month. A Narnia film reached Netflix on Friday 2 April. Panic Carefully opens on Friday 9 April, led by Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen. Spaceballs follows on Friday 23 April.
Kentucky Oaks day and Miami's Grand Prix weekend begin together on Friday 30 April. The race itself runs on Sunday 2 May, which is May's opening move. The month's last square therefore belongs to sport.
Five Thursdays and five Fridays, and the month still finds room for a marathon. April 2027 repeats itself politely and hands May a full diary.
