September 2025 Calendar: Two Eclipses and the Equinox
September 2025 ran both its eclipses on time. On September 7 the full Harvest Moon turned dark in a total lunar eclipse visible from Europe to Australia. Two weeks later, on September 21, a partial solar eclipse crossed New Zealand and the Pacific. The 30-day month between them opened on a Monday, stacked five Mondays and five Tuesdays, and carried 22 business days.
A month built for restarts
September opened on Monday, September 1 and closed on Tuesday, September 30. The count ran to five Mondays and five Tuesdays, with four of every other weekday. Weeks 36 to 40 held the whole run. Eight weekend days balanced 22 business days, the industrious side for a 30-day month.
A 30-day month that opens on a Monday, as this one did, has already chosen its personality. September 2025 stretched its working week at both ends and still made room for two eclipses.
Two eclipses and one equinox
The lunar eclipse was the showpiece. A full moon, a supermoon and a total eclipse stacked on the same night, a rare pile-up of good timing. The last quarter followed on September 14.
The new moon on September 21 doubled as the partial solar eclipse, visible from New Zealand and the Pacific. Two eclipses exactly two weeks apart is how eclipse seasons work. The sky keeps a schedule; this was the month it showed off.
The equinox arrived on September 22 at 18:19 UTC. It is one of the two moments each year when day and night run nearly equal everywhere on Earth. Whatever each hemisphere calls the season, the clock said balance.
Rematches, saints and rate cuts
Sport ran on reruns with new endings. Carlos Alcaraz beat defending champion Jannik Sinner in four sets on September 7 to win the US Open. It was his sixth Grand Slam, and it returned him to world No. 1.
Aryna Sabalenka had retained the women's title a day earlier, defeating Amanda Anisimova in straight sets. On September 13, Terence Crawford upset Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision in Las Vegas. He became the first male boxer in the four-belt era to be undisputed champion in two weight classes.
Pope Leo XIV canonized Carlo Acutis on September 7. Acutis was an Italian teenager devoted to computers who died in 2006. He became the Catholic Church's first millennial saint.
At the Emmys on September 14, hospital drama The Pitt won best drama. Showbiz satire The Studio took best comedy.
The European Commission fined Google 2.95 billion euros on September 5 over its advertising-technology dominance. The Federal Reserve followed with its first rate cut of 2025 on September 17. The target range fell to 4.00 to 4.25 percent.
Phones, ghosts and one typhoon
Apple announced the iPhone 17 line on September 9, including the ultra-thin iPhone Air at $999. It went on sale September 19, with AirPods Pro 3 shipping alongside. The Conjuring: Last Rites led cinemas with about $83 million, the biggest domestic debut of a slow month.
OpenAI released the Sora 2 video model on September 30 with an invite-only app. The app climbed to No. 1 on the US iPhone download chart within days.
The month's hardest weather came late. Super Typhoon Ragasa struck Taiwan on September 23. An overflowing barrier lake killed at least 17 people in Hualien county. The storm then lashed Hong Kong and southern China.
Two eclipses and an equinox in a single month: September 2025 was the sky's tidy month.
